I had my second go at making beer bread on the barbecue tonight – this time using a more basic recipe:

  • 330ml Bottle of beer (Estrella Damm)
  • 375g Self raising flower
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Whole grain mustard

It was baked in my new cast iron pot using the Weber Kettle (which worked great and I will definitely be using the pot again!) It took around an hour at 350°F – the colour was perfect although it did have more of a cake texture to it…

We had it with steak, chips and corn on the cobs – I had a beef rump and Michelle had a bone-in pork rib eye, both medium-rare. I think the corn was the highlight of the meal though – they were wrapped in foil with herbs and butter and cooked at 350°F for 30mins before taking out and grilling, along with the steaks. Yum!
